Signs of spring
Some of our gardeners have started planting cool-season vegetables. While the beds look mostly bare, important work is happening in the soil. Meanwhile, our peach trees are really showing off. The other fruit trees won't be far behind.

Cache Valley's rare and native plants
For all you folks who love (learning about) plants ... Did you know that the Logan area has three rare species of Utah native plants? Maguire's primrose, Cronquist's daisy, and Frank Smith violet. Have you spotted any of these in the wild? We enjoy promoting this event that our friends at Stokes Nature Center and the Intermountain Herbarium are co-organizing: Because this event is held at Home Range Brewing, attendees must be 21 or older. The event is free but tickets are li

Promoting the Garden
Many thanks to the volunteers who promoted Hope Community Garden at the Seed Swap & Plant Exchange held at the Logan Library this afternoon. It's always great to connect with fellow plant lovers. Some visitors learned about Hope Community Garden for the first time, and our volunteers were ready to answer all questions. Good work; thank you!

Beds have gone to bed
But don't be fooled ... good things are happening beneath the surface! A few continuing gardeners have planted garlic, others have mixed leaves into the soil to boost its quality. We are also making plans to grow vegetable plants from seeds in our greenhouse in spring. Check back here for an announcement in early March about registration for the 2026 season.

Let's go plant trees 🤩💖
Are you kind of sad that gardening season is over? Do you often dream of getting your hands in the dirt? Would you like another chance to get your shoes muddy? You can volunteer to help restore native habitat at Wuda Ogwa, an important site of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone and located near Preston in southern Idaho (about an hour's drive from Logan). No prior tree-planting experience necessary; you will learn on-site. The weather forecast for next weekend looks great

Upgrade Project - Day 1
Our volunteers are the best! From the folks who ordered the supplies, to the ones who cut the wood to the right lengths, to the many who showed up last Saturday to make the boxes and affix them to the existing beds -- WOW, just WOW! Rock stars , all of them. Now all 50 beds are twice as deep as they were before. We will fill them with topsoil tomorrow, and then next year's plants will have an easier time growing strong roots. Boxes put together Carrying the boxes to the beds

This past Saturday, more than 30 gardeners attended the 2025 garden kick-off celebration at HCG, planting their raised beds and cultivating community with fellow gardeners. Thanks to generous donations from the USU Teaching Greenhouse and Greenleaf Greenhouse, we were able to provide free seeds and plant starts for all gardeners!
