On Saturday, May 17th, Katie Owens from Cache Valley Native Plants taught a wonderful workshop at HCG about gardening with native plants. We learned that native plants make for great, low-maintenance, environmentally-friendly landscaping because they don't require inputs of fertilizer or excessive watering. Native plants are also the only plants that support endemic insect species. These insects don't harm plants and are vital to local food chains, supporting wildlife like birds, fish and bears. Many native plants also support pollinators that help to increase plant yields.
Katie helped us to pick out some new plants for our pollinator garden. Stop by to check out the new globemallows, penstemons, and yarrows. The bees are already visiting!
We are so appreciative of Katie and all the time and effort she took to help make our garden a better place for all our users! If you are interested in incorporating native plants into your yard or garden, Cache Valley Native Plants has a nursery location in Richmond City.
